The 2nd Annual Heart of West Texas Pageant is set to bring glamour, confidence, and community engagement to Midland College’s Wagner and Brown Auditorium on Feb. 22-23. Hosted by Model Haus LLC, the event aims to provide a high-quality competition for young women while fostering service and leadership opportunities throughout the region.
Model Haus was founded by former pageant titleholders Mackynlie Conklin (Miss Permian Basin 2019) and Gladys Ornelas (Miss West Texas 2020) to expand opportunities for individuals interested in fashion, modeling, and pageantry.
“With a sparse pageant and fashion industry in West Texas, we wanted to create a trusted and transparent platform where contestants could gain experience and make meaningful connections,” said Mackynlie Conklin, CEO of Model Haus. “Our goal behind Heart of West Texas is to provide a quality pageant with a foundation of integrity and community service.”
The competition includes four categories: interview (30%), fitness (25%), fun fashion (20%), and evening gown (20%). Participants will be judged on poise, personality, and communication skills. “We welcome contestants with no prior experience, and we offer a workshop during the competition to ensure they feel confident before stepping on stage,” Conklin added.
Winners will receive an impressive prize package, including an official crown and sash, walking and interview coaching from Model Haus LLC, fitness coaching by BodyxRamon, a $1,000 gown credit from Muzzie’s Prom, professional photography sessions, and beauty services. Additional sponsors include Kendra Scott, Anzwers Marketing, West Texas Teeth Glowup, and several local businesses.
Beyond competition, the Heart of West Texas Pageant emphasizes year-round community involvement. Model Haus partners with organizations such as Keep Midland Beautiful, 3:11 Ministries, Basin Dream Center, and Meals on Wheels. “We commit to one community service opportunity or special appearance each month throughout the year,” Conklin said.
The event will also feature notable guest appearances, including Mrs. Texas and Mrs. World Top 6 finalist Deb Arnold as a judge, West Texas Top Model 2024 Jacob Richardson, and NewsWest9’s Jolina Okazaki and Alex Cammerata as emcees. Local royalty will be in attendance to welcome the new titleholders as they begin their reigns.
“The Heart of West Texas Pageant isn’t just about beauty—it’s about empowerment, leadership, and community,” said Conklin. “We are excited to celebrate the intelligence, grace, and ambition of West Texas women.”
