The Palette Club will host a portrait drawing workshop featuring nationally exhibited artist Daniel Sorensen on Saturday, Feb. 22, from 1 to 5 p.m. The event offers aspiring artists the opportunity to learn charcoal portrait techniques through hands-on instruction from Sorensen, a seasoned educator known for his accessible teaching style.

“We regularly get requests for drawing classes, especially portraits,” said Palette Club organizer Dee Kemp. “We strive to provide different classes so those wanting to learn more can become better artists. Daniel Sorensen is an excellent instructor and a natural choice to teach this class.”

The workshop is open to artists of all skill levels, from beginners to experienced participants.

“His hands-on approach emphasizes technique, creativity, and making art accessible to everyone,” Kemp said. “Whether working with beginners or mentoring advanced artists, he fosters a supportive and inspiring environment where students can refine their skills and explore their passion for art.”

Attendees will begin with a teaching session and demonstration led by Sorensen, followed by guided practice as they work on their own portraits. Throughout the session, students will receive individual feedback to help refine their techniques.

“The required supply list should suffice for this class,” Kemp noted. Participants should bring an 18x24” drawing paper, a drawing board, soft vine charcoal, and a kneaded eraser.

This is not a one-time opportunity. Due to high demand, additional workshops will be held on March 22 and April 26.

Interested participants are encouraged to register early, as space is limited.
