The Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival World Tour is coming to Midland for the first time, bringing some of the most captivating films in adventure sport and outdoor exploration to the Yucca Theatre on March 21-22 at 7 p.m. each night.

The event, hosted by Waystone Brewing, will feature different films each night, showcasing incredible feats in mountain biking, rock climbing, skiing, wingsuit flying, bird-watching, and more.

“Get off the beaten path and explore the edge of believable,” organizers said. “Stand on the highest peaks, ski the steepest slopes, and be a part of the adventures in this year’s World Tour.”

The screenings will benefit the Sibley Nature Center, with all proceeds supporting the center’s mission of promoting nature education and conservation.

Waystone owner Jaylyn Morehouse explained the significance of hosting the festival in Midland.

“Ted [husband] and I always attended the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour when it came through our hometown of Lawrence, Kansas. We’d leave every screening feeling inspired and motivated to get out and have an adventure,” Morehouse said. “Since moving away, we’ve lived too far from a host city, so we decided to bring it here. Last year, we applied and were thrilled to be accepted!”

There will be seven films screened Friday and eight different films Saturday, with themes ranging from high-energy adventure to humorous and lighthearted moments. Attendees are encouraged to purchase separate tickets for each night to experience the full lineup.

Tickets, priced at $40 per night, go on sale Feb. 1 and can be reserved through Brown Paper Tickets

A Road Warrior from the Banff Centre for the Arts will host both nights, with intermissions featuring prize giveaways. Organizers hope to draw 250-300 attendees per evening.

“This is an incredible opportunity to expose our community to the world of adventure filmmaking while supporting a great cause,” Morehouse said.
