River Fine Arts is bringing the magic of Narnia to Midland with Freezing Fridays, a six-week, winter-themed program starting Jan. 10. Inspired by the never-ending winter in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, the program offers two ways to participate: a Family Play Pass for $10 and Drop-Off Spots for $25 per session.
“We’re staging The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe for our spring performance, so the Never-Ending Winter theme was a natural first part of our semester,” said Lauren Knowles, owner and director of River Fine Arts. “Of course, spring will come!”
The Family Play Pass allows families to drop in from 1 to 4 p.m. for activities such as art projects, STEM challenges, and treats like Narnian hot chocolate.
“We love doing STEAM projects here in our classes and camps,” Knowles said. “This week, we’re kicking off with a building challenge to create an igloo from marshmallows and toothpicks. Every week will feature new challenges to try!”
For children at least six years old, the Drop-Off Spots provide a guided afternoon of fun through themed stations. Activities include indoor snowball fights, relay games, and sled ramps for stuffed animals.
“We’ll also practice turns and jumps like ice skaters,” Knowles said. “Just like the STEM projects, there will be something new each week.”
Families interested in attending can create or log in to their account at www.theriverfinearts.com to choose their dates. Pre-registration is required at least 24 hours in advance for Drop-Off Spots.
Safety measures are in place to ensure a secure environment for children.
“Students are signed in at the front desk and remain in the care of our teachers until pick-up time,” Knowles said. “We also keep the doors locked during Drop-Off Spot sessions to restrict access in and out of the studio.”
While there are no discounts for Freezing Fridays, River Fine Arts offers family discounts for its monthly dance, art, and theater classes.
“This event is a great way for families to experience the wonder of Narnia while enjoying creative and educational activities,” Knowles added. “We can’t wait to see everyone join the fun!”
