Midland Community Theatre is kicking off the holiday season with its production of White Christmas: The Musical, based on the 1954 film. The show promises to deliver a mix of music, dance, and holiday spirit.
Directed by Jane Moore, the production stays true to the film’s charm and sentimentality.
“The White Christmas musical is based on the beloved film. The film alone is a classic known to many households. That being said, in regards to the direction of the musical, being that it is a very classic holiday movie, the audience is looking for the classic show and feel, and it was honored with that nostalgic touch,” Moore said.
The cast was selected through open auditions, which were available to the public. Audition packets were accessible online or in person at the theater’s box office, and performers were encouraged to schedule audition times in advance.
A casting committee, made up of three to four members, including Moore, evaluated the talent to assemble the show’s lineup.
Set against a 1950s-inspired backdrop, the musical features familiar songs like “Sisters” and the title song, “White Christmas.” The production combines choreography, costumes, and set design to capture the spirit of the holiday season.
As part of its commitment to accessibility, Midland Community Theatre will host a Reach Out/Pay What You Can performance on Sunday, Dec. 15. This initiative allows individuals to attend the show regardless of their financial situation.
Moore said she hopes the production leaves a lasting impression. “I hope the audience walks away singing the songs and with Christmas cheer,” she said.
Tickets for White Christmas are available through the theater’s website and box office.
