Keep Midland Beautiful (KMB) is encouraging the public to adopt environmentally friendly practices during the holiday season.
In a December 2 Facebook post, the non-profit organization suggested several ways for holiday shoppers to celebrate sustainably. Among these suggestions is eco-friendly gifting, which involves wrapping presents in recycled paper or fabric such as old scarves or cloth bags. This approach discourages the use of single-use wrapping paper with glitter or foil.
According to KMB, when it comes to decorating homes and businesses, using LED lights and reusing decorations from previous years are recommended. The organization suggests that celebrants can create DIY ornaments using recyclable materials for a personal touch.
With an increase in holiday gatherings expected over the coming weeks, KMB urges wise meal planning to avoid food waste and recommends using reusable plates, cups, and cutlery instead of disposables.
