On October 27, 2024, a serious accident occurred at the intersection of Everglade and Bellaire Drive in Odessa. Police and fire rescue teams responded to the scene around 1:35 am.

A black 2016 Dodge Challenger driven by Jose Contreras, an 18-year-old from Midland, was traveling west on Everglade before making a southward turn onto Bellaire. The vehicle veered off the road and hit a pedestrian named Alex Bingham, aged 25, from Odessa. Following the incident, Contreras left without providing assistance and abandoned his car.

Bingham was taken to Medical Center Hospital but succumbed to his injuries on October 30. His family has been informed of his passing.

As the investigation progressed, charges against Contreras were elevated to "Collision Involving Death Felony 2" and "Intoxication Assault Felony 2." Additionally, Nadia Trevino, aged 24, faced charges for "Furnish Alcohol to a Minor," classified as a state jail felony. The case remains under investigation.
