Local dojo, Midland BJJ, is preparing to host a women's self-defense class.

According to Eventbrite, the class will offer participants lessons in situational awareness and comprehensive scenario-based training. Women aged 13 and older are encouraged to attend the event on Saturday, November 23, at Midland BJJ’s facility located at 4612 Billingsley Boulevard #Suite 39. Tickets for the event, which will run from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., are priced at $10.

The objective of the class is to provide instruction aimed at thwarting assaults and building defensive techniques skills, as said by Eventbrite. Participants are advised to bring comfortable clothing and water.

Midland BJJ is owned by Brad Barnes, who is described as a nationally accredited combative instructor on the company’s website. Barnes wrote on Eventbrite: "Come to the class, if you want to leave after listening to what I have to say in the first 10 minutes, I'll pay you $10 for ‘wasting your time.’" He further said: "We will teach you to use any force options that you are interested in."
