Zoo Midland is designing its upcoming exhibits with interactive elements for visitors of all ages. Zoo Midland Director Jason Green discussed the importance of designing spaces that allow both educational and interactive experiences for guests.
“One of our goals during the design phase, which has been really enjoyable, is to consider the perspectives of both children and adults,” Green said. “Often, adults have a great view of the exhibits, so we want to make sure we’re also providing a perspective that works well for children.
To achieve this, the zoo is working to create spaces where the lines between visitors and animals are less defined. This will allow guests to get closer to the animals "as safely as possible,” according to Green.
The zoo is also designing physical interactions that will allow guests to engage directly with animals. Visitors will have opportunities to feed, touch, and observe animals during training sessions and animal care demonstrations.
Green also said that the zoo has been collaborating with a digital design team to create interactive digital elements.
“The goal is to have an engaging blend of animals and digital experiences that give visitors a much closer and nuanced look of what goes on in the animal’s space and their behavior,” Green said.
The digital components will complement traditional exhibits, providing visitors with more interactive ways to learn about the animals and their environments.
“The interactions will range from the display interfaces and educational components to exhibits that share interesting animal facts, all designed to create an engaging and interactive experience for guests,” said Green.
