The Salvation Army in Midland will receive grant funding to assist veterans experiencing homelessness.
According to a news release, this initiative forms part of Governor Greg Abbott's strategy to support the Salvation Army through a Fund for Veterans’ Assistance (FVA) grant. The Texas Veterans Commission’s (TVC) Grants Across Texas will distribute $2.4 million in grants to eight organizations in West Texas, with the Salvation Army being the sole recipient in the Permian Basin. The organization is allocated $260,000, while the remaining seven recipients are based in El Paso.
"West Texas is known for its strong military community, and many veterans decide to call it home after leaving the service," TVC Executive Director and Army veteran Thomas Palladino said. I was myself stationed in Fort Bliss and was proud to call the Lone Star State my new home. These grant awards will make a big impact in the region with services ranging from homeless veteran support to home modifications in the Housing for Texas Heroes program."
Palladino recently presented these grants at Starlight Event Center in El Paso, according to the news release. Earlier this year, Abbott announced 81 grants totaling over $44 million for 161 organizations across Texas. This round of funding for West Texas aims to provide services to over 2,100 veterans and their families across 23 counties.
