Lisa Grissom, event designer and co-founder of Promising Projects, said she now identifies as an "event designer" because it better reflects the comprehensive nature of her work, which includes organizing, producing, and creatively curating events. Grissom was a guest on a recent episode of the Best of Midland Podcast.

“Being an event producer certainly falls within the scope of what I do,” said Grissom on a recent edition of the Best of Midland Podcast. “Over the years, I've evolved into using the term 'event designer' because I feel like it's more all-encompassing, putting together events, organizing, producing, and curating them. All of that is both art and science. There's a lot of business, heady stuff that has to go on, but there's also a lot of application for the creative as well. I think 'event designer' better captures the scope of what I really do.”

“Event production, which actually means several different things depending on the context you're using it in, can mean organizing the event or the technical production aspect of things,” Grissom said. “That definition really kind of varies.”

Grissom is the co-founder and chief business development officer of Promising Projects, a company she has led since 2006, focusing on event marketing and production. She also co-created and serves as the chief fest designer for Tall City Blues Fest, organizing concerts and festivals in Midland, Texas, since 2010. Additionally, Grissom has worked as a freelance website designer since 2020.
