A building located in the 100 block of Canyon Drive, which the city classified as a dangerous structure, has been demolished under the Dangerous Building program.

According to an October 9 Facebook post, this initiative is funded by federal tax dollars with the aim of encouraging redevelopment and fostering safer neighborhoods.

Midland officials express hope that the program will assist in transforming the city into the safest in West Texas while enhancing the quality of life for its residents. The city has outlined a four-fold strategy for implementing this program.

A building is deemed "dangerous" or "substandard" if it fails to comply with standards set by the city's adopted Building, Electrical, Plumbing, Gas, Swimming Pool, Mechanical, Residential, or Energy Codes concerning buildings. Additionally, such structures pose a threat to individuals and property and are considered unfit for human habitation. As of May this year, Midland has identified 75 properties that meet these criteria.
