Joseph Norman, oilfield influencer and optimization consultant, said that in business and entrepreneurship, it's important to focus on the audience you have rather than worrying about lost followers, as perseverance is key to handling criticism and setbacks. Norman was a guest on a recent episode of the Best of Midland Podcast.
“The video was about losing millions of followers over ten years on YouTube,” said Norman on a recent edition of the Best of Midland Podcast. “Multiple channels have lost millions of followers; I think it's Think Media that hit, and it was a mistake, but I think that's amazing. Sean was talking about losing millions of followers, but it's not about what you lost, it's about what you've got.”
“People are consuming your content for a reason, so just deal with what you have,” Norman said. “Don't worry about what you lost. It hurts sometimes, like getting ugly comments or when people say you haven’t provided the value they expected, and that one hurts the most. It hurts being in business and entrepreneurship, but that's where perseverance comes in.”
Norman is an optimization consultant at FluidLevels, an oil and gas service company in the Permian Basin of West Texas. FluidLevels specializes in optimizing artificial lift systems to maximize production and prevent failures. He also runs the company’s YouTube channel, which highlights the oil and gas industry and the people involved in energy production.
Best of Midland Podcast is hosted by Ryan Shewchuk and Terra Avery. It is an extension of the broader Best of Midland program, which aims to support small, local businesses by showcasing them and the people behind them.
