Midland-based Permian Basin Regional Planning Commission (PBRPC) has received a $2.3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Economic Development Administration (EDA).

U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo made the announcement, according to an EDA news release. The funds will help PBRPC’s facility receive a makeover. The organization aids 17 area counties with economic development and planning services. This EDA investment will be matched with $300,000 in local funds.

"This EDA investment will help provide the infrastructure for economic growth, planning, and small business development in the Permian Basin – creating a strong and resilient regional economy," Raimondo said.

According to the news release, the renovation project will be backed by funds given to the Economic Adjustment Assistance (EAA) program for disaster relief and recovery for areas that received a major disaster in 2021 and 2022. The program received $483 million from the EDA after they received a grant under the Disaster Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act.

"Access to robust and efficient infrastructure is critical for continued economic development in Midland and throughout West Texas," said Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX). "I applaud this announcement and look forward to seeing the positive impact these investments will have for business growth in 17 counties across the Permian Basin."
