The Midland Development Corporation (MDC) approved three resolutions aimed at advancing economic growth during a meeting on Sept. 9. These included an economic development agreement with Starfighters Space Texas LLC, a contract with KBR Inc. for commercial spaceport development services, and the purchase of 6.484 acres of land from Henderco LLC.

According to the meeting agenda, Starfighters Space Texas is currently headquartered in Cape Canaveral, Florida, and specializes in supersonic flight operations, research and development, pilot training, and space flight programs. The company sought additional facilities and storage space to support its expanding operations, leading to collaboration with MDC to establish terms for incentives. These incentives are contingent upon several key factors: the expansion of business operations at the Midland International Air & Space Port, the creation and retention of primary jobs within Midland, and the relocation of capital assets and equipment to the port.

In anticipation of this agreement, Starfighters Space Texas plans to create 23 full-time jobs at the Midland International Air & Space Port by Dec. 31, 2033. It will also relocate approximately $78 million in capital assets and equipment to further bolster local infrastructure and economic activity.

This collaboration will also seek Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approval for a high-speed airspace corridor linking Midland International Air & Space Port with Spaceport America.

The second resolution approved during the meeting authorized a $15,000 agreement with KBR Inc. for the ongoing development of commercial spaceport facilities at Midland International Air & Space Port. KBR is a leading global provider of engineering and aerospace services and the agreement is expected to position Midland as a key player in the burgeoning space industry.

The third resolution approved the purchase of 6.484 acres of real estate from Henderco LLC, located in the Parkway South Addition, Section 3, within the city of Midland. The property acquisition, valued at $1.6 million, is intended to support development projects and enhance local business opportunities.
