The Midland Police Department (MPD) held its fifth Midland Police Academy graduation ceremony on July 31.

According to the Permian Basin law enforcement agency, seven recruits joined the force. They are Tucker Craig, Tyrell Egnew, Quinlin Gemmel, Jeffrey Niedecken, Enoc Sanchez, Maverick Walters, and Christian Yorkman.

Prospective cadets must pass a test administered by MPD to gain admission into the academy.  To qualify for the force, applicants must be a minimum of 21 years old, hold a valid driver's license, have no felony convictions, and present either a high school diploma or a GED with college credits.

The physical requirements include performing 30 sit-ups in 60 seconds, executing 25 push-ups in 60 seconds, and completing a 1.5-mile run in less than 14 minutes and 46 seconds.

According to MPD, its force is made up of men and women who feel called to serve the citizens of Midland. The department's mission statement emphasizes developing personnel and managing resources to foster effective partnerships with the community.
