New Midland actor: Casting for Landman wanted the portfolio ‘as raw as possible’

Aschten Aguilar, who has a role on Landman, said he felt encouraged by the “raw”, unfiltered nature of the portfolio request, which boosted his confidence, and that he received the casting offer while driving to visit his sick grandmother. Aguilar was a guest on a recent episode of the Best of Midland Podcast.

"I thought this was very interesting: when you’re setting up a portfolio, you’re not supposed to have any kind of filters," said Aguilar on a recent edition of the Best of Midland Podcast. "They wanted it as raw as possible—no hats, makeup, or anything like that. They want to see you in your raw form. That felt good, too, because if you're getting picked up for that at J RW State, it kind of gives you a little confidence, like, 'Okay, I might have something.'”

“My grandma ended up getting really sick, so they flew her to Amarillo,” Aguilar said. “We went up there, and on the way, I didn’t realize it was a four-and-a-half-hour drive. I had my wife and two kids with me, and we were like, 'Alright, we’re going to go see Grandma.' About two and a half hours into the drive, I got an email saying casting would like to book me for Landman.”

Aguilar will be on Taylor Sheridan’s upcoming show, Landman, which stars Billy Bob Thornton, Jon Hamm, and Demi Moore. He has a background in the oil fields and a passion for music.
