Work to widen State Highway 158 is expected to begin in 2025.

According to a filing with a state regulatory agency, the $9.2 million Texas Department of Transportation project is being spearheaded by Valerie Alvarado, a design engineer from their Odessa office.

The city has already advised residents in June who are traveling through the area to expect delays as crews worked on a portion of the highway in Midland. "The work at the intersection at State Highway 158 and Sinclair Avenue will begin with improvements, including intersection expansion, curb and gutter and drainage," the city said in a civic alert. "When that is completed, traffic signals will be installed to help traffic flow in that area of west Midland."

According to the filing, the scope of work for State Highway 158 improvements includes widening the road from an undivided two-lane to a divided four-lane roadway. Other improvements to the road will include grading, drainage improvements, signage, lighting, ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) curb ramps and pavement markings.

The filing also states that the Lubbock office of the design firm Kimley-Horn is on board the project team.
