The Midland International Air & Space Port (MAF) announced that it has recorded a milestone that is essentially a first in the city of Midland’s history. According to MAF, the number of passengers boarding an airline in one month exceeded 70,000.

According to a July 16 Facebook post by the Permian Basin airport, the city reported that 70,340 passengers boarded one of the four airlines—Southwest Airlines, American Eagle, United Airlines, or Delta Airlines—that service MAF last month.

The figure is approximately 14% higher than that posted at the same time last year, according to the post.

Permian Basin stations KMID News and KPEJ News reported that a new record for passengers in a year could possibly be set.

Citing the city government, KMID and KPEJ reported that 545,674 passengers have passed through MAF in nine months of the current fiscal year (FY), which is approximately 12% higher.

As stated on its website, MAF ranks eighth among primary commercial service airports in Texas.

The airport is owned and operated by the city of Midland and offers more than 20 daily departures to several major airports including Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), Dallas Love Field (DAL), Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), Houston William P. Hobby Airport (HOU), Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS), Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX), and Denver International Airport (DEN).
