A new Dollar General is coming to Midland, according to a state filing with a regulatory agency.
Oxford, Mississippi-based DG Holdings, LLC, the parent company of Dollar General, will develop the $1 million project. According to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) filing on July 16, the project is expected to begin construction on Nov. 1 and be completed by April 1.
The store will be located along E. Wadley Ave. and consist of a 10,857 square-foot building, according to the TDLR filing. A design firm for the project was not listed as part of the development project team.
According to Dollar General’s website, the company has 21 stores in Midland.
The company is planning on opening up to 800 new stores this year throughout the country after Dollar Tree Inc. announced that they were closing 600 of the company’s Family Dollar locations, according to Retail Dive. Pop Shelf, a subsidiary of Dollar General, is also helping the company grow, CEO Todd Vasos said during an earnings call in March. "We continue to believe that the Popshelf concept provides an additional growth opportunity but are cognizant of the near-term pressures impacting non-consumable sales," he said.
