The United Way is operating a program available to Midland residents to help them become non-profit leaders. The organization’s Project Blueprint trains future nonprofit leaders, and is offered locally to ensure that Midland’s nonprofit sector reflects the diversity of the community, according to Hunter Haynie, Community Engagement Coordinator with United Way of Midland.
“Project Blueprint is a revamped version” of the United Way’s program that started in the1980s, according to Haynie. The new version of the program is in its third year with new goals and objectives, he said.
The program helps scholars learn leadership skills, engage with nonprofit boards, and benefit from mentorship. Each scholar is paired with a volunteer mentor who provides guidance and serves as a resource.
Program Benefits:
- Nonprofit Board Connections
- Mentorship Program
- Board Leadership Education
- Exposure to Community Resources
- Presenters with a wide range of business and community knowledge
The event facilitates quick connections, similar to “speed dating” to connect nonprofits and scholars. It provides opportunities for scholars to learn about volunteer options and programs in the community.
Participation in Project Blueprint is “simple,” said Haynie. Apply on the United Way website, pay a $50 fee once accepted (which covers meals and learning materials), and “start your journey towards nonprofit leadership,” he said.
