Following an alleged assassination attempt on former President Donald J. Trump on July 13, Midland Mayor Lori Blong stated there is no place in the U.S. for political violence. Trump, who served as the 45th president from 2017 to 2021 and is the presumptive Republican nominee for this year's race to the White House, was injured in the incident at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania but is expected to recover.

"There is no place in this country for political violence," said Blong, according to Facebook. "I am praying for President Trump, who showed tremendous strength and courage tonight. I also pray for the innocent victim and their family."

According to The Hill, Trump was rushed to safety when gunfire occurred at the rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) said someone tried to take the ex-commander-in-chief's life.

Axios reported that Trump said on his Truth Social account he was "shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part" of his right ear.

Trump thanked the Secret Service and law enforcement officials for intervening and offered his condolences to the family of the sole individual who was killed, according to Axios.

USA Today reported that the FBI identified the suspected shooter as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks.

Law enforcement officials fatally shot Crooks shortly after he opened fire, according to USA Today.
