Midland Memorial Hospital (MMH) has been awarded the American Society for Health Care Engineering’s (ASHE) Energy to Care Award. This accolade is presented to facilities that meet sustainability goals supporting healthy environments and communities over time.

According to a July 3 press release, MMH will be represented by Chuck Brooks, its director of hospital engineering, at the ASHE Health Care Facilities Innovation Conference in Anaheim, California, on July 24. Brooks will accept the award on behalf of the Permian Basin hospital.

MMH Vice President of Facility Services Abraham Bejil said in the release that the hospital considers it an honor to receive the Energy to Care Award. "MMH is proud to be at the forefront of carbon footprint reduction," Bejil stated.

According to the release, MMH is one of 102 participating facilities recognized this year.

Established in 2006, the Energy to Care Program has boasted more than 4,400 participating facilities since 2010 and accumulated combined savings of over $550 million earmarked for patient care.

The accomplishment comes a little more than a month after MMH was recognized by "Modern Healthcare" Magazine as one of the Best Places to Work in Healthcare for the second consecutive year, Midland Times reported.

As per MMH's website, it first opened its doors in 1950 as the sole non-profit hospital in Midland County. Over nearly 75 years, the hospital has grown from a modest 75-bed facility to a substantial 546-bed patient tower.
