Midland County has warned residents about a scam involving the main phone number at Warrant Services.

According to county officials, they have received reports regarding false claims about warrants. Individuals claimed that they were instructed to contact a certain "Officer Green," according to a July 1 Facebook post by the county. However, the county clarified that there is no Officer Green employed with Warrant Services.

Permian Basin CBS affiliate KOSA News reported that the county has received a couple of reports related to the scam. Residents are advised to be cautious when they receive such calls. They are directed to refrain from providing any personal information or following any instructions without verifying the authenticity of the call, according to the county's post.

Midland Times reported that in May, Midland County Sheriff David Criner issued a warning to residents about ongoing phone scams. The publication reported that callers allegedly spoofed the Midland County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) phone number to make it appear as if the call was directly coming from the agency.

Criner reassured citizens that no law enforcement officer will ever call and demand money over the phone instead of making an arrest, according to Midland Times. The county additionally urged residents to contact (432) 688-4700 or (432) 688-4703 with any concerns or information regarding these calls.
