The City of Midland has announced a leadership transition as part of its new strategic plan focused on enhanced safety, community engagement, and succession planning. The announcement was made in a press release from the City of Midland on June 21.

According to the release, Fire Chief Charles Blumenauer will transition to the role of Managing Director of Public Safety, in which the transition continues his managerial role while developing others in the fire department senior ranks.

In his new role, Blumenauer will oversee the safety operations of Midland, including the city's fire services, Animal Services, Health Department, and emergency services. This change comes as Midland continues to experience rapid growth, according to the release.

“Chief Blumenauer’s extensive experience and dedication to public safety make him the perfect fit for this role,” City Manager Tommy Gonzalez said in the release. “His leadership will be instrumental in driving our strategic initiatives and maintaining Midland’s status as a safe and vibrant community.”

As part of this transition, Michael Tully has been named the Interim Fire Chief. Chief Tully, a lifelong resident of Midland, brings 20 years of service to the Midland Fire Department, including his recent role as Assistant Chief of Administration where he oversaw personnel, training, Emergency Management, and EMS.

“Michael Tully has demonstrated outstanding leadership and expertise,” said Blumenauer in the release. “I am confident that he will continue to uphold the high standards of the Midland Fire Department during this interim period.”
