A large tank battery fire in Midland County drew the attention of the Midland Fire Department (MFD) on the morning of June 20. The blaze occurred east of 1379 and Highway 158.

According to a Facebook post by the department, the fire prompted the closure of Highway 158 as company officials attempted to shut off high-pressure lines.

MFD announced the reopening of the highway at 6:51 a.m.

According to the post, the blaze yielded no injuries.

Officials had advised citizens to steer clear of the area, which is approximately 15 miles south of Midland and 5 miles southwest of Greenwood.

Firefighters commenced extinguishing the fire as of 7 a.m.

The incident took place a few days after wildfires broke out near the New Mexican village of Ruidoso, which is at least 280 miles to the northwest of Midland.
