Midland awards a $6.5 million contract for Main Street Paving Bond project

The Midland City Council awarded a $6.5 million contract to Jones Bros. Dirt & Paving Contractors of Odessa for the city's Main Street Paving Bond project. The approval came during the June 11 council meeting and included a $1.3 million contingency fund.

According to the Midland City Council's agenda packet for its June 11 meeting, the Main Street Paving Bond Project will include removing existing pavement and replacing it with new paving. The project will also involve the installation of sidewalks and traffic control infrastructure, including mobilization, saw-cutting, pavement removal, excavation, embankment, backfill, compaction, formwork, pavement repair, pavement placement, sidewalk repair and placement, concrete joint sealing, erosion control, traffic control, stabilization, utility cover adjustments and coordination with city staff, utilities and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

Assistant City Engineer Josh Ferguson told Purchasing Manager Erika Martinez that the contractor has an established history in the city performing work of similar scale and scope. According to Ferguson's statement in the agenda packet for the June 11 meeting, the Road Bond Fund has $7.7 million in funding appropriated for the project.

Councilmember Jack Ladd moved to approve the resolution during the council meeting. The motion was seconded by Councilmember Amy Stretcher Burkes.
