The City of Midland has issued a reminder to its registered voters that early voting for the upcoming May 4 city council election will begin on April 22 and continue through April 30. The primary focus of this election is an at-large seat, with five candidates - Ben Roberts, Cheston Blank, John Burkholder, Eric Davidson and James "Bull" Henry - in the running.

According to an April 18 Facebook post by the city, eligible voters have several locations where they can cast their votes. These include the Midland County Elections Office at 2110 N. ‘A’ St., Midland County Centennial Library at 2503 W. Loop 250 N., Cogdell Learning Center at 201 W. Florida Ave., United Supermarket at 3317 Midland Dr., or Village at Manor Park at 5212 Sinclair Ave. The post further stated that early voting will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., except on April 29-30 when it will take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. However, there will be no early voting on April 27-28.

The vacant position was previously occupied by Dan Corrales, who tragically died from an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound earlier this year as reported by Permian Basin CBS affiliate KOSA News. According to KOSA, both the Midland Police Department (MPD) and the Texas Rangers assisted Justice of the Peace David M. Cobos’s office in investigating this incident.

One out of the five candidates will emerge victorious in this race and will serve out the remainder of Corrales’s term, which is set to expire in January 2025.
