The Midland Police Department (MPD) recently bid adieu to Lt. Sean Sharp, marking the end of his illustrious 20-year career on April 5. The Permian Basin law enforcement agency acknowledged that Sharp's dedicated service had left a significant imprint on the department and the community he was entrusted to safeguard.
According to an official press release from the city of Midland, Sharp embarked on his journey with MPD as a recruit on August 18, 2003. He began his tenure as a patrol officer three months later, earning promotions to sergeant in June 2016 and ultimately ascending to lieutenant in December 2022. Throughout his career, Sharp played a pivotal role in mentoring numerous young recruits and served in various capacities within the department, including the SWAT team, the Field Operations Bureau, and the ISB Narcotics Division.
The city highlighted that Sharp's dedication and commitment were recognized through numerous accolades he received during his service. His commendations included Officer of the Year in 2005, the Distinguished Service Medal in 2006, Field Training Officer of the Year in 2008, the Medal of Service in 2009, the Chief’s Award in 2011, ISB Supervisor of the Year in 2018, the Medal of Valor in 2019, and Supervisor of the Year in 2020.
In its statement, MPD expressed profound gratitude towards Sharp for his unwavering commitment to duty and invaluable contributions to their team. They referred to him as an integral part of their family.
