Midland College announced it received a $100,000 safety education grant from Texas Mutual Insurance on March 27. According to a Midland College Facebook post, the grant will pay for students to participate in safety classes at the school.

Texas Mutual Insurance has been collaborating with colleges statewide to promote the health and wellness of Texans since 1999, according to a company press release. Through these grants, colleges can provide free or discounted workplace safety and health courses to local businesses, their employees, and the general public. Midland College was one of 10 universities to receive this year’s grant.

According to the Texas Mutual Insurance press release, the grants help pay for school courses such as occupational safety and health administration (OSHA) outreach courses, CPR and first aid, and equipment operation. Classes are tailored to the primary industries in their respective communities such as Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and oil and gas hazard awareness.

According to the release, Texas Mutual Insurance has awarded $13 million in safety education grants to their college partners in the last 25 years, benefiting over 61,000 students.
