MIDLAND, TEXAS -- The City of Midland's Traffic Operations Division has released its 2023 Traffic Crash Report, providing insights into the traffic situation within the city limits for the past year.

According to the report, the total number of reported crashes in Midland saw a slight increase from 2,919 in 2022 to 3,016 in 2023. This data includes crashes that occurred on public roadways and were reported to the authorities.

Furthermore, the report highlights a 9% increase in the number of crashes with injuries, rising from 874 in 2022 to 959 in 2023. Additionally, there were 20 fatalities in 2023 resulting from 18 fatal crashes, a decrease from the 24 fatalities in 2022.

The interchange of Loop 250 at Andrews Highway retained its position as the location with the highest number of reported crashes in 2023, consistent with previous years. Notably, seven of the Top 10 high crash locations in Midland are interchanges on either Loop 250 or Interstate, reflecting the traffic patterns within the city.

Overall, traffic volume counts across various locations in Midland increased by 15% in 2023 compared to the previous year. These counts, gathered over a 24-hour period, serve as key data points for understanding traffic trends in the city.

City officials emphasized the importance of monitoring intersections citywide, collaborating with relevant stakeholders, and implementing changes to traffic control devices where necessary. The annual Traffic Crash Report dating back to 2010 is available on the city's website, offering a comprehensive view of historical traffic data for reference and analysis.
