The 2024 track and field season is underway for local teams who participated at the Rogers Ford Tall City Relays at Memorial Stadium on Feb. 9, with Midland winning the boys’ meet and the girls’ team placing fourth.

Midland boys’ top performers:
Jose Almanza took home a pair of first place medals with a win in the 1600 meters (4:38.37) and the 3200 meters (10:01.94) to lead the Bulldogs to victory.
Stroman Bridges took first place in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 41.09. Noah Crumpler also raced well, with a third place finish at 43.18.
Michael Waters took first inn the triple jump with a distance of 42 feet, 8.25 inches.
100 meters: Elijah McCoy was second with a time of 11.11.
200 meters: Amon Mosley was second with a time of 22.68
400 meters: Tristan Love was sixth with a time of 54.91.
800 meters: Mykol Aguilera was 10th with a time of 2:09.49
110 meter hurdles: Crumpler was second with a time of 16:09; Ryder Sims was third with a time of 16:14 and Bridges was fourth with a time of 16:32.
4x100 meter relay: Midland took fifth place with a time of 44.12. The team included Love, McCoy, Michael Waters, and Cutter Lange.
4x200 meter relay: Midland took second with a time of 1:31.80. The team included Love, McCoy, LaCurtis Washington and Maddox Moore.
4x400 meter relay: Midland was third with a time of 3:35.15. The team included Love, Lange, Mosley and Bridges.
Pole vault: Cage Peugh was fourth with a height of 12 feet.
Long jump: Athen Dominguez was 10th with a height of 18 feet, 10 inches. Amon Mosley was 13th at 18 feet, 9 inches.
Shot put: Blaine Hamilton was fourth with a throw of 41 feet, 10 inches.
Discus: Hamilton was third with a throw of 134 feet, 9 inches.
Midland girls’ top performers:
Coach Kirk Thurman is in his first year as the head coach of the Lady Bulldogs and he was pleased with the results his girls put forward to start the year.
“I thought the lady's did well for the first meet,” Thurman said. “All the ladies stood out to me they went out and did what I ask them to do which was to compete.”
He added, “The team’s goal is to get better every meet.”
Freshman Kaylee Smith started off her high school track career right with a first place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 2:26.58.
100 meters: Alani Alexander was sixth with a time of 13.37.
200 meters: Madelyn Aleman was 11th with a time of 28.23.
400 meters: Stephanie Olmos was third with a time of 1:03.80.
1600 meters: Smith was second with a time of 5:35.20 and Lillian Earl was third at 5:37.59.
3200 meters: Rocio Almanza was sixth with a time of 13:02.14.
100 meter hurdles: Aubrey Gray was second with a time of 16.46 and Milana King placed fourth with a time of 17.17.
300 meter hurdles: Gray was second with a time of 49.11 and King was fifth with a time of 51.11.
4x200 meter relay: Midland took fifth place with a time of 1:49.13. The team included Alexander, Emily Doss, Adedayo Adeyemo and Natalie Tillis.
4x400 meter relay: Midland was fourth with a time of 4:16.21. The team included Gray, Tillis, Olmos and Villafranco Serenity
High jump: Dejah Seymour was fifth with a height of 4 feet, 8 inches
Pole vault: Addison Davis had a toss of seven feet for fourth place.
Long jump: Adeyemo was ninth with a leap of 14 feet.
Triple jump: Alexander was sixth with a distance of 31 feet, 1 inch.
Shot put: Stephanie Guerrero was 10th with a toss of 26 feet, 1.5 inches.
Discus: Guerrero was ninth with a throw of 81 feet, four inches
