Odessa, Texas - The Odessa Police Department proudly welcomed four new police officers during a graduation ceremony held at the Odessa Marriott Hotel & Conference Center. Chief Gerke expressed his excitement and introduced the new officers, highlighting their backgrounds and aspirations.
Officer Ethan Ryan McKown, a 26-year-old native of Odessa and graduate of Permian High School, expressed his enthusiasm for his new career. Officer McKown shared, "I am looking forward to the experiences and training I will receive. Inspired by the training staff, I hope to one day teach new police recruits and be part of the SWAT team."
Officer Odilia Soto, a 35-year-old Odessa local and graduate of the Career Center, is eager to make a difference in her community. Officer Soto stated, "I am most looking forward to helping people every day and doing my part to address crime within the community. One day, I hope to become a homicide detective or join the Traffic Unit."
Officer Joseph Gabriel Valerio, originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico, but a graduate of Wink High School in Wink, Texas, brings a passion for service and a dedication to Odessa. Officer Valerio shared, "I am excited to explore the diverse opportunities within the Odessa Police Department and discover the path where my skills and values can best serve the public."
Officer Mario Julian Vera, born in Honduras and raised in the Bronx, New York, is excited to serve and make a positive impact in the Odessa community. Officer Vera expressed his hope of one day becoming a K9 officer, stating, "I am most looking forward to serving and making an impact in the Odessa community."
The induction of these four new officers reflects the Odessa Police Department's commitment to strengthening its force and ensuring the safety and security of the community.
