U.S. Rep. August Pfluger (R-San Angelo) | Office of Congressman August Pfluger

U.S. Representative August Pfluger (R-San Angelo) proudly supported U.S. Representative Mike Johnson (R-LA) as the next House Speaker. In an Oct. 25 press release, Pfluger praised Johnson as a constitutional lawyer and one of the strongest conservatives in Congress who has fought for fundamental freedoms and traditional values.

Pfluger stated, “He will make a wonderful Speaker of the House, and I was proud to support him.” The congressman also highlighted Johnson's leadership in holding President Biden accountable on the Judiciary Committee and his support for the military on the House Armed Services Committee.

According to a report from Fox News, Johnson secured the position of Speaker with a 220-209 House floor vote. Prior to Johnson's election, U.S. Representative Patrick McHenry (R-NC) temporarily filled the position after the removal of California Republican Kevin McCarthy.

Johnson expressed his gratitude for the support he received, saying that becoming the 56th Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives is "the honor of a lifetime." His district represents approximately 760,000 residents across 16 parishes in the northwest and western regions of Louisiana.

Pfluger described the process of electing a new Speaker as "arduous" but emphasized the unity among Republicans in supporting Johnson.

The election of Johnson as the next House Speaker marks a significant moment for the Republican Party and sets the stage for future legislative endeavors.
