At Stake: Midland Christian and Fort Worth Christian are both on a two game skid. The Mustangs have been outscored 60-7 over the past two weeks and look to get their offense going again

What to watch: It has been a rough stretch for the Mustangs, who suffered a 46-0 loss to Liberty Christian last week, and All Saints before that. They need to get back into the form of their previous two weeks, where they outscored opponents 69-51 and had a pair of wins.

Look for Colton Newsom to step it up this week, after failing to pass for a touchdown the past two weeks. He has the ability to light it up, as he showed earlier this season against Cornerstone Christian where he threw for 301 yards and four touchdowns at a 77.1% clip. He also was 17-for-23 for 232 yards and two scores in a win over Bishop Lynch.

Brylee Perez is the team’s top running back and figures to be a factor in the game. He can carry the ball and also come out of the backfield for receptions. He ran for 124 yards and three touchdowns in a win over Del Rio, and followed with 106 yards against Bishop Lynch. In the Del Rio game he also caught five passes for 134 yards and a score.

Newsom and Perez both need to to get back into this form for the Mustangs to find their footing.

Brady Young, Isaiah Mathews and Coy Hayes are three  sophomores to watch, as they have had some solid performances this season. Young had two picks, a forced fumble and 13 tackles two weeks ago against All Saints. He has the ability to get to the quarterback, as well.

Against All Saints, Mathew forced a fumble and had 11 tackles, with one for a loss.

Fort Worth Christian are 4-3 but they have had an issue giving up points, as they’ve been outscored 301-234. They are coming off a bye week, which couldn’t have come at a better time as the team had back-to-back blowout losses (85-13 to Liberty Christian and 58-16 to Dallas Christian).

Luke Dodd is under center for the Cardinals and coming off a week where he was 19-for-37 for 236 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. His top target was Grant Ghali with eight catches for 53 yards. Timmy Wright has the ability to go for a big play, shown against Liberty Christian with a 59-yard reception.
