Odessa Mayor Javier Joven has taken a strong stance against the recent violence in Israel, condemning the Palestinian militant group Hamas for their sneak attack on the country. The attack, which occurred earlier this month, claimed the lives of over 1,000 people. In response, Mayor Joven issued an executive order and the Odessa City Council affirmed their opposition to terrorism and acts of antisemitism.

In a Facebook post on October 15, the city stated, "Mayor Joven believes in the power of unity and peace, and he calls upon the people of the world to join together in solidarity against hatred. As we find ourselves on the brink of a potential global conflict, it is essential that we stand as one, promoting harmony and understanding among all nations."

The surprise assault by Hamas took place on October 7, as militants assisted by rocket fire infiltrated Israeli towns near the blockaded Gaza Strip. The attack resulted in dozens of deaths and the abduction of others who were taken into Gaza on a major Jewish holiday. Israeli officials have described it as the deadliest attack in decades.

In response to the attack, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared war on Hamas, and the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) are preparing for a retaliatory ground offensive in Gaza. The violence has taken a heavy toll, with over 3,000 people killed and numerous residences and businesses damaged or destroyed.

Meanwhile, back in the Permian Basin, Mayor Joven has appealed for prayers as the conflict worsens. The city urged its residents to pray, stating, "In this critical time, Mayor Joven encourages everyone to pray. He understands that prayer can bring solace, hope, and healing to those in need during challenging circumstances."

Mayor Joven's condemnation of the violence in Israel highlights the importance of unity and peace in the face of global conflicts. His call for solidarity against hatred resonates with the international community as the world grapples with the escalating violence in the region. As the situation continues to unfold, many are looking to leaders like Mayor Joven to promote harmony and understanding among all nations.
