Javier Joven, the Mayor of Odessa, recently attended the Texas Municipal League conference in Dallas. Joining him at the conference were Council Members Mark Matta and Denise Swanner, as well as some of the City of Odessa Directors.
The conference, which took place earlier this week, offered a range of sessions related to energy resources and overall community health. Some of the sessions included topics such as the challenges posed by social media for the public sector, managing mental health and well-being, and understanding electricity. The conference provided support and networking opportunities for those working in Texas government positions.
This year's conference marked the 111th annual event organized by the Texas Municipal League. The conference was held at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas and was supported by organizations like the Association of Hispanic Municipal Officials, Texas Association of Black City Councilmembers, Texas City Attorney's Association, and Texas Association of Mayors, Councilmembers, and Commissioners.

The Texas Municipal League has a rich history dating back to 1913 when Austin Mayor A.P. Wooldridge called for a convention to discuss municipal issues. The league was established to publish a magazine, conduct an annual conference, and offer assistance to cities upon request.
Attending conferences like the Texas Municipal League provides mayors and council members with valuable insights and opportunities to connect with other government officials. These events contribute to their ability to make informed decisions and effectively serve their communities.
