It’s the end of an era in Odessa as a well-known music store announced its plan to close permanently after nearly 50 years of business. Endless Horizons Records & Tapes Inc. said that October 21st will mark its final day of operations. The small business expressed gratitude to the community in a Facebook post on October 6th, stating, “We don't want you to be sad because we are grateful for being able to serve this community for 48 years. Come on by and let's make some final memories together.”
In light of the closure, the store is offering a 50% discount on all merchandise. Customers can visit the store from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and on Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. until October 21st.
Endless Horizons Records & Tapes Inc. has a rich history in Odessa. According to an article in the Odessa American, the store was the dream of owner Sam Logan's father, Tom, who was a fan of The Beatles and Grateful Dead. Tom Logan decided to open a record store and chose Odessa over Austin. He moved to Odessa in February 1975 and opened the shop in July of the same year. Following his father's death in 2012, Sam Logan took over as the store's owner.
The closure of the store comes as a result of various challenges faced by the business. In the Facebook post announcing the closure, the store cited a lack of sales, the rising cost of commercial real estate in the area, and other financial issues compounded by the pandemic as reasons for not being able to relocate.
As Endless Horizons Records & Tapes Inc. prepares to close its doors, the community is invited to visit the store and create final memories together. It marks the end of an era for music lovers in Odessa.
