At Stake: The Bronchos and Panthers are both sitting at 3-2 records as they enter the start of district play, in what looks to be a tough District 2-6A schedule.

Odessa has won two straight and most recently beat Schertz Clemens with a walk-off field goal by Aidric Rivera- his second of the season.

The Bronchos are led by Dejuan Green, with the senior running back rushing for 644 yards on 82 carries with four touchdowns. Green is averaging 128.8 yards per game rushing, with an average of 7.9 yards per carry. He has also caught eight passes for 58 yards. Junior quarterback Michael Cota has thrown for 1,295 yards, 12 touchdowns and six picks with a completion percentage of 54%.

The top receiver has been University of Oklahoma commit Ivan Carreon, who has recorded team highs in catches (23), yards (463) and touchdowns (7). Jalen Warren and Andrew Rodriguez have 21 and 20 catches respectively, with Warren tallying 287 yards and two touchdowns, and Rodriguez with 343 yards and three touchdowns.

Senior defensive back Zayne Minjarez has a team high 51 tackles with seven for a loss, and one of the team’s three picks. He is averaging 10.2 tackles per game this season. Daniel Garcia has a sack and 10 tackles.

They have been outscored 157-152 this season.

Odessa Permian is a storied program boasting six titles and 39 playoff performances, and with district play under way, they are looking to make another push in the second half of the season.

Senior Juzstyce Lara leads the team with 530 rushing yards on 81 carries, and seven touchdowns. In his last game he had three scores and 165 yards on the ground.

Sophomore signal caller Jakob Garcia is 43-for-80 for 298 yards, four touchdowns and four interceptions. He was very efficient in his last game going 8-for-11 for 106 yards and a pair of scores. 

Last week Garcia connected with Gage Murphy for a 46-yard score, showing there is some firepower to watch for. The senior wideout has tallied nine catches for 113 yards and a touchdown.

Isaac Herrera has put up excellent numbers running the ball with 303 yards and six touchdowns, at 11.2 yards per carry.

Defensively, senior Parker Haynes has a team high 43 tackles and an interception. Fellow seniors Riley Summerford and Kevion Wilson each have three sacks. Summerford also has an interception and a fumble recovery, both tallied last week. The interception went for a pick-six of nine yards.
