Midland High School 36, Monterey 8

It was a homecoming win for the Dawgs. Midland High School played against Monterey High School at the Astound Broadband Stadium.

Midland Bulldogs started their 36-8 victory as they demonstrated ruling the field in the first 11 minutes of the game. They limited Monterey Plainsmen to 255 total yards and were able to defend their goal line in the second quarter. Midland High quarterback Tristan Love's 27-yard run paved the way for the first touchdown. Elijah McCoy scored on a 4-yard run resulting in the Bulldogs' 7-0 lead with just a little over 7 minutes in the first quarter.

Monterey seemed to take control of the game as Avery Davis recovered a fumble by Midland at the Bulldogs' 40-yard line late in the second quarter but the Dawgs were unstoppable and took a 20-2 lead into the halftime. They eventually steered to end the game in their favor.

After defeating Monterey High School, Midland High School is 4-0 for the first time after more than a decade.

The Dawgs came from a match against the Coronado Mustangs on Sept. 1 in Lubbock, winning the game, 48-13.

Midland will visit El Paso for a game against Andress Eagles.

Monterey will oppose Abilene Eagles in a home league game on Friday.

Legacy High School
31, Steele 62

Steele Knights break Legacy Rebel's winning streak. Legacy was 3-0 prior to facing Cibolo Steele at the Robert and Glenda Lehnhoff Stadium in Schertz.

Marcos Davila's impressive performance was not enough to bring victory to Legacy Rebels. Davila completed 17 of 33 passes for 352 yards and threw three touchdown passes. He also led the Rebels with 48 rushing yards and scored a rushing touchdown.

Steele's Chad Warner completed 19 of 29 passes for 448 yards and threw six touchdown passes.

The Knights had 231 yards compared to the Rebels' 92 yards.

Brex Stevens, Legacy's main wide receiver, registered three receptions for a total of 127 yards and scored two touchdowns. He made a 30-yard touchdown reception from Davila in the first quarter.

It was 34-17 into halftime in favor of Steele, who continued to dominate in the third quarter, allowing no points for the Rebels.

Later in the game, Davila linked up with Aiden Serrano for a 31-yard touchdown pass, narrowing the margin to 55-31 but the team never scored again. The Knights concluded the game in their favor, 62-31.

Permian High School 25, Harker Heights 27

The Panther's comeback in the last quarter was not enough to win the game. They were in the lead in the first quarter twice the point of Harker Heights Knights, 6-3 but lost in the next two consecutive quarters.

Permian High finally took the lead again in the last quarter, 6-3, but the Knights made sure history won't repeat itself. Harker Heights suffered a 28-27 loss to Permian a year ago. In last Friday's game, the Knights triumphantly secured a 27-25 win against the Permian Panthers.

Junior running backs Kaden Butler and Zy'riyan Evans collectively gained 48 rushing yards. Butler gained 28 yards on 13 carries, while Evans contributed 20 yards on five carries.

Odessa High School 36, Amarillo 35

Amarillo started with a good 22-0 lead but as the game progressed, penalties became a stumbling block for the Sandies.

At one point Odessa's Mikey Cota connected with Jalen Warren for a 4-yard touchdown pass and wide receiver Ivan Carreon successfully caught the two-point conversion resulting in tying the game up at 29 with 9:24 left in on the clock. A few more minutes after, an interception by Amarillo High's Jaylend Brashears gave the Sandies possession on their own 28 with less than 5 minutes remaining.

Amarillo's Pious Vokes found the end zone with a 27-yard touchdown run. Spectators would have really sat on the edge of their seats when a mishandled snap during the PAT attempt meant that the Sandies maintained a slim lead of 35-29 with just 2 minutes and 47 seconds remaining.

The Bronchos did not waste time and managed to score with just 2 minutes and 29 seconds remaining, courtesy of an 87-yard kickoff return by Warren. The successful extra point put the Bronchos in the lead, 36-35, and they were able to maintain the lead until the end, securing the striking distance 36-35 win.
