In a clean sweep for local schools, Midland, Midland Legacy, Odessa and Permian all won ther football games last week, with two blow pouts and two close contests.
Midland 48, Coronado 13
Elijah McCoy was a dominant force on the ground for Midland (2-0, 0-0) against Coronado (0-2, 0-0) on Friday night, rushing for three touchdowns in a 48-13 win for the Bulldogs at home.
Midland had a 7-6 lead after one quarter and then piled on 22 points while allowing seven in the second quarter to make it a 29-13 game at the half. The Bulldogs went on to score 19 unanswered points in the second half to cruise to an easy win.
McCoy rushed 22 times for 177 yards, including a 48-yard run, and three touchdowns. Tristan Love had six carries for 98 yards and a touchdown. He broke free for a 62-yard run in the game. Anthony Kolb had eight carries for 47 yards and two touchdowns, while Tim Babino had eight carries for 68 yards. The Bulldogs had a total of 439 rushing yards and did not have a single passing yard in the game.
Defensively, Ryder Miller recorded 13 tackles, while Turner Squire and Athen Dominguez each had 10 tackles. Dominguez had an interception, as well. Darrion Mitchell had 1.5 sacks, and Noah Crumpler, Ryder Miller and Jeremiah Loudd each had a sack. Felix Campos and Tahj Harris had 0.5 sacks apiece. Bryson Soliz had one forced fumble.
Midland Legacy 63, Tascosa 34
Madden Milloy had a three-touchdown performance to lead a surging rushing attack that amassed more than 400 yards for Midland Legacy (2-0, 0-0) in a 63-34 win over Tascosa (1-1, 0-0).
Tascosa jumped out to a 13-7 first quarter lead, but the Rebels piled on 21 second-quarter points to make it a 28-13 halftime lead. Each team scored 14 points in the third quarter and Midland Legacy outscored Tascosa 21-7 in the fourth quarter to secure the easy win at home.
Milloy carried 18 times for 100 yards and three touchdowns. Damien Johnson also eclipsed the century mark in rushing, with 13 carries for 103 yards and a touchdown. Tommy Johnson III had 19 carries for 95 yards and two touchdowns. Mason Daehling had three carries for 22 yards and a score, and Zyquwan Young ran the ball six times for 23 yards and touchdown.
Marcos Davila was 9-for-21 passing, for 269 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Aiden Serrano was his top target with four catches for 117 yards and a touchdown.
Permian 27, Midway 21
Permian (1-1, 0-0) and Midway (0-2, 0-0) had a back-and-forth battle on Friday night, but the Panthers were able to score in the fourth quarter to take a late lead and secure a 27-21 win over the Panthers.
The Permian Panthers were down by two in the fourth quarter, but Juzstyce Lara scored on a four-yard run. Uriel Montoya caught a two point conversion to make it a 27-21 game and Permian held on for the win.
Odessa 22, Americas 20
Odessa (1-1, 0-0) and Americas (1-1, 0-0) had a see-saw battle on Thursday night, with the Bronchos rallying late to take a 22-20 win over the Trail Blazers.
The Bronchos scored seven points in the first quarter and six points in the second quarter to take a 13-0 lead at halftime. The Trail Blazers battled in the third quarter with 14 unanswered points to take a one-point lead going into the fourth quarter. Odessa outscored Americas 9-6 in the fourth quarter to take the win.
