Midland Animal Services confirmed plans to offer a free microchip clinic throughout the month of September, according to a press release. Local residents can take their cats and dogs to receive the service until Sept. 30.
“We are really looking to offer more services to the public and educate the public,” said Midland Animal Services Manager Melissa Hobson, CBS 7 reported.
The city will host the clinic on Tuesdays through Fridays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pet owners may walk in to request the service at 1200 N. Fairgrounds. No appointment is required.
“Midland Animal Services staff will come to your car for check-in,” the city of Midland stated in the release.
Upon arriving, visitors may park in one of five designated spots on the north end of the parking lot. Visitors can contact: 432-685-7420 with any questions/inquiries.
“Microchipping is a quick and safe way to protect your pet; if a pet is found, it can be taken to any vet's office or animal organization and scanned for a microchip. Microchipping your animals can help reunite your family if a pet is lost,” the city of Midland said in the release. “Our microchips are used to have free lifetime online registration and information updating.”
The Midland Animal Service shelter receives approximately 10 new stray pets per day, CBS 7 reported. The staff has found the majority of them without a microchip, making it a challenge for the pets to reunite with their owners.
“Microchip, maybe one or less. Right now we are not seeing a whole lot of microchips,” Hobson said.
