Midland teachers received more than $8,000 in micro grants, according to a recent Midland Independent School District (ISD) tweet on the X platform, formerly known as Twitter.
“The grants will go to help students in all sorts of ways,” the tweet says. “Want to help a teacher help students? There are plenty of ways to do so through the foundation!”
The grants are collected by the Midland Education Foundation, made up of a board of directors who find ways to strengthen the capabilities of the district through a wide range of initiatives intended to support academics, fine arts, robotics, science, technology, engineering, math and history, the school district website says.
The foundation has expanded its reach in the past 13 years through the assistance it has received through student and teacher scholarships, such as the Memorial Scholarship Fund, Pioneer Legacy Scholarships, Tenaris STEM Scholarships, Shining Stars Scholarships, Grants for Great Ideas, Grants for Great Minds, and events like “Tee it Up for Success” and “Concert for Kids,” the website says. It is led by director Anita Gamertsfelder.
“The Foundation’s impact on our district has grown even more by managing large, designated gifts to assist teachers and staff,” the website says. The foundation encourages individuals to donate. "The tremendous support our teachers and students receive from the Education Foundation would not be possible without the generous support of our community," the website says.
