A Bureau of Economic Analysis report found Midland to be the 10th richest metro area in the US, ahead of major areas such as Denver and St. Louis, based on per capita income.

It was ranked the second wealthiest metro area by the Bureau in 2012.

A report from Open Secrets, a non-profit tracking and analyzing political donations, found the top 10 percent of wealthy cities and counties in the US, such as Midland, donated over one-third of all political contributions in federal elections.

This means Midland is an important area for all politicians when on the federal election campaign and money donated from Midland residents can have a significant impact on US politics.

The FEC regulates any political donations over $250 per year and makes such information available online.
