The Schelhouse family of Midland welcomed in the first baby of the new year in 2021 for Midland Memorial Hospital at 10:22 a.m. on Jan. 1.

Born to Pamela and Charles Schelhouse, baby Cannon was 6 lbs, 2 oz, according to a press release from the Midland Memorial Hospital.

As a way of congratulating Cannon on making it into the world at the start of the new year, as well as starting the parents off with a few things they will need for their baby, the Midland Memorial Hospital presented the young family with a gift basket of items that might come in handy, according to the release. The items filling the welcome-basket for Cannon came from a variety of organizations and private businesses around the Midland area.

Among items in the gift basket is a bottle cleaner, crib sheet and grooming kit from Hope Chest of Midland, a program sponsored by Midland Health and Midland Memorial Foundation, according to the release.

The gift basket also held a “Baby's First Christmas Ornament” and gift card from Miss Cayce's Christmas Store, and a handmade knitted blanket set, bib and car seat hanger from Nifty Knitters for Newborns Midland Churches of Christ.

For Pamela, the gift basket also held a purse and compact from The Pink Pug, according to the release.

Hello Elo Clay Designs also provided a pair of earrings for the gift basket, according to the release.

Anthus of Midland donated an Anthus gift card to go into the basket, and Jaslyn K Photography provided a gift certificate that will entitle the family to a free family photography session, according to the release.

Finally, to help in those early days to keep the entire family fed, Precious Pauly's donated a family meal gift certificate to go into the basket, according to the release.
