The annual CASA of West Texas Toy Drive had a different look last year.

The reason? COVID-19’s impact, which changed how people could interact.

Those who wanted to donate had until Nov. 24 to purchase items from the Amazon Wishlist, the organization said in a release. The donated toys were sent to CASA in an effort to provide children with the gifts in time for Christmas.

The annual toy drive typically took place at a local Walmart previously. But this year, CASA changed things as the coronavirus pandemic continues locally and nationwide.

CASA also has detailed other changes that will be in effect until January 2021 in light of COVID-19. Those changes include virtual visits and training being in place of face-to-face sit-downs. It will also conduct name-based criminal history checks instead of the standard Fingerprint Based Checks (FBCs) as IdentiGO centers are temporarily closed. FBCs will take place once the facilities reopen.
