Throughout the year, the Salvation Army raises money for multiple causes. The organization released a video to show the journey each dollar donated goes on to reach one of the many causes.
The Salvation Army, founded in 1865, is an evangelical organization that is part of the Christian Church, according to its website. The organization supports those in need in the name of God and without discrimination. They have been helping Americans for 130 years reach their needs.
"The Salvation Army each year through the broadest array of social services that range from providing food for the hungry, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled, outreach to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless and opportunities for underprivileged children," the organization said on its website. "Eighty-one cents of every dollar spent is used to carry out those services in 5,000 communities nationwide."
From the moment a dollar is dropped into a Salvation Army donation box during the winter or donated online, it sets off on a journey to help someone in need of food, housing, or victims of natural disaster, the organization said.
The dollar will go toward purchasing food for food pantries, where those in need of food can pick some up for their family, according to the video. Alternatively, the dollar will go toward ensuring there is housing available to those without any and provide meals to them while they stay. Donations are also used to purchase gifts for children who might otherwise receive none for the holidays.
The organization also helps serve veterans, combat addictions and provide Christmas to families that can't afford it. The funds are also used for free meals, disaster relief, baby supplies, clothing, medical assistance, life skills training and guidance and support.
