Fresh from earning her high school diploma to cap a year unlike any other, Midland Senior High alumna Za’Riyah Gilmore has decided to continue her hoops career in the Panhandle.
Gilmore signed with the Clarendon College basketball program, putting to rest whether track and field will be a huge part of her future.
Previously, the woman in the post for Lady Bulldogs, Gilmore helped guide Midland to the 2020 postseason on the strength of clutch plays in several key district wins. She is expected to help shore up Clarendon’s front court.
Though Midland turned in a 10-24 finish, Gilmore still felt it was a great season.
“I think personally it made me like (basketball) even more,” she told the Midland Reporter-Telegram. “Even though I had this one offer in basketball and like plenty from track, I felt like that was a sign. And I like challenges, so of course I’m going to take that challenge and I’m going to go play basketball.”
