Buckner Children & Family Services issued the following announcement on April 29.

Small local businesses are at the forefront of many minds as the pandemic continues to keep some closed due to social distancing orders. As the trend of supporting these companies climbs, there are some Buckner families who have continued to run their small businesses in cooperation with restrictions set in place to protect themselves and those they serve. 

In support of Buckner client small businesses, this page will be constantly updated. Information on how to support them can be found below. 

Allencia Washington, A&K Organic Body Butter, Houston

Allencia is in the Buckner Family Pathways program in Houston, Texas. Her company provides all-natural body butter to promote healthy, glowing and hydrated skin. Allencia said she is passionate about her business because it is something she is proud to have built, and it allows her to express her creativity each day.

Juan Antonio and Carolina Yáñez, Taqueria Caritos, Peñitas

Juan Antonio and Carolina participate with the Buckner Family Hope Center in Peñitas, Texas. They own and operate Taqueria Caritos where a taco a day is the key to happiness. The Peñitas based establishment specializes in border-based cuisine. 

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they now sell warm cookies that bring smiles into the homes of many. Carolina said the Taqueria began as a dream when she would watch her grandmother sell everything she baked, and with support from her family her dream became a reality.

Amber Talton, Healthy Braids by Amber, Houston

Amber participates in the Buckner Family Hope Center at Reed Road in Houston, Texas. She owns and operates Healthy Braids by Amber which seeks to provide consistent and high-quality braids for African American men and women. 

Once local goverment permits it, Amber will be ready to take on clients in a safe and responsible manner. Appointments can be scheduled through her booking website. Images of her previous work can be seen on her Instagram page @healthybraidsbyamber or on her Facebook page.
