A torch that shined brightly on the Midland College Board of Trustees for 47 years has been passed to a leading attorney and energy executive.

Scott Kidwell was named to the board to fill the unexpired term of Ken Peeler, a mainstay on the board. Kidwell will serve in the at-large No. 9 place seat until November when the seat will be up for election.

Trustees serve six-year terms.

Kidwell joins the board with impressive credentials serving as the senior vice president of Administration for Concho Resources, according to the Odessa American. He also serves as the chair of the New Mexico Oil and Gas Association, a member of the Texas Gas and Oil Association and chair-elect for the Permian Basin Petroleum.

Peeler retired his seat in January. His son Judge K. Kyle Peeler, Midland County Court-at-Law, administered the oath of office during a regular meeting of the board of trustees.
